The guilt trip after the actual trip
Post-vacation guilt is bullshit

Me and Tif, the birthday girl, our last day in Belize… ahh I miss that sun and these girls!
Ahh that comedown from vacation.
It’s kinda like the day after doing molly (not that I would know…wink) where your serotonin has dipped, and you feel like you’re back in a stark reality trying to acclimate.
Or maybe that’s just the shrill cold of winter reabsorbing into my bones?
Let me let you in on an average day in Belize for all us ladies.
The house? Wi-Fi only reached the downstairs common area. That meant upstairs where the rooms were, we were off-grid.
I was off my device at least the first hour of every day, and the last few hours of every evening. I fell asleep without my usual meditations. I woke up when I heard the other ladies rustling in the house.
No alarms. No strict agendas.
We spent our days together. Talking. Hanging. Exploring. Getting to know locals. Eating incredible fresh caught fish.
It’s the kind of time and togetherness that reminds you why the hustle sprints are worth it — to give you the ability to take time like this to just be.
In great company, somewhere new, NOT checking your inbox.
The Hustle
And then you come home.
Inbox: 747 unread. Calendar: back-to-back. To-do list: screaming.
That immediate guilt creeps in. "I shouldn't have been gone so long." "I'm so behind." "Everyone else kept working while I was drinking Landshark soursop seltzers at 11am."
Fuck that noise.
Post-vacation guilt is capitalism's last-ditch attempt to make you feel bad about being human. It's the hustle culture lie that says rest is lazy, that time off is selfish, that you should be grinding 24/7 or you're not serious about your career.
Here's the truth: I'm not behind. I'm recharged.
My brain actually works again. I haven’t been inundated by dopamine hits of random media for a week. Ideas are flowing. I'm not doom-scrolling manifestation TikToks at 2am.
I can think clearly about what actually matters instead of just reacting to whatever's loudest.
And unfortunately we are in a culture where shit is quite loud. All the time.
You know what happens when you don’t fill your cup up from time to time? You start making decisions from exhaustion instead of strategy. You say yes to things you should decline. You miss opportunities because your brain is too fried to recognize them.
The week in Belize wasn't a break from building my career. It WAS building my career.
Because a burnt-out comedian isn't fun to watch. A person without adventure and togetherness loses creativity. An exhausted founder makes bad calls.
And a person who never rests doesn't last.
The Chill
It’s amazing what simply shows up for you when you’re not actively pushing.
Here's what happened while I was "doing nothing."
I was having a conversation with one of the girls, sitting poolside, about how we are actively working on trusting the process.
Like, actually trusting it. Not the "I trust but let me also obsessively check my email 47 times" kind of trust. The real kind. Where you do the work, you make bold moves, and then you let life do its thing without white-knuckling every outcome.
A few hours later, I checked my email.
One of the top comedy managers in the game had reached out asking to meet.
I've been looking to change reps. I've been strategizing about it. But I wasn't forcing it. I don’t force anything when it comes to ‘the industry.’ I didn’t even make it known to anyone or take any action. I just knew it was time for a shift and kept on hustling in my own way.
And then it showed up. While I was drinking a Belikin by the pool, not even thinking about it.
That wasn't the only thing. Multiple aligned opportunities, connections, and conversations landed in my inbox that week. Not because I was putting in effort for them whatsoever, but because I'd already done the work. I'd built the foundation. And when I finally got out of my own way and just... existed... things just showed the fuck up.
I'm not going full manifestation-guru on you here. I'm not saying you can just wish things into existence while doing absolutely nothing. The work matters. Inspired action is momentum. The years of grinding matter. The reputation you build is clutch.
But there's something about being in a truly relaxed, allowing state that makes space for things to show up for you.
When you're constantly in fight mode, you miss opportunities because your brain is too busy trying to control everything. When you're rested? You can actually see clearly. You can respond instead of react. You can recognize the right thing when it shows up.
I meet with that manager tonight. And I'm walking into that meeting as the best version of myself — not the exhausted, burnt-out version that was running on fumes in December. The version that just spent a week remembering who the hell I am outside of a title or career. That chill island girl who loves adventure, great company, and fun stories to bring home.
So yeah. The guilt can fuck right off.
You're not behind. You're exactly where you need to be. And sometimes the best thing you can do for your career or life is get out of your own way and let it catch up to you.
By the way fam, you may begin seeing some ads on my newsletter from time to time. This is good for me — it keeps this free for readers and allows me to monetize without selling you some bullshit or fucking with affiliate links.
These ads come as offers directly from Beehiiv, the platform I write on, which is built for entrepreneurial creators. I have to approve them or they don’t go live. I will try and put them at the bottom (although last week since the ad was FOR Beehiiv, it went right at the top — sorry if that was “jarring.”)
If you have a problem with this, then you should probably stop using Google and social media too. 😉 Or you can just trust me and keep supporting knowing that I might make a few extra bucks on this newsletter that I put a LOT of myself into.
Carry on. 😘
Upcoming Shows
Saturday Jan 24 - Triple Headliner show in Seattle (I’ll be doing 25 along with 2 other comics)
Love you all and cheers to the hustle + chill. We enjoy our island time.
